I would like answer this based on my understanding in reading the Bible.

Before Christ, Old Testament perhaps, no man can face God unless God says so and without us our putting effort to cleanse ourselves like offering something on the altar, taking off the slippers before stepping on the Holy Ground ( just like Moses did), facing God with great fear (just like Moses on Mt. Sinai). But man cannot go and make way to God. God is so Holy that he cannot tolerate to see sins. When He sees sins, he washes them away, thus punishing us. So when a person commits sin, he shall be punished.

When Jesus Christ arrived, in New Testament, we can now face God with joy. It is because Jesus is the way and the only way to God. We don’t have to put some efforts just to face God. Just call on Jesus and He will lead us to God the Father.

We all know that all sins must be punished. God of Moses washes away the sins of the world by floods, destroying and everything. However, God of Jesus wipes away the sins in the body of Christ. Jesus Christ finished them all so that we can face God without fear. Jesus took away all our sins so that God will not see it in us and therefore we will not suffer punishment because Jesus paid it all.

God of Moses may be look like God that is angry because we the sinners are keep on sinning. But Jesus Christ saved us, took all the punishments that we deserved and we can see here in God of Jesus as a loving God. He actually calls Himself as our Father.

We are sinners, nobody is exempted. God is firm to His words that all sins must be punished. Every time we commit sin, we deserved to be punished. Jesus came to earth to save us from this punishment. He suffered the punished we deserved, nailed on the cross, died for our sins and God forsaken Him. BUT Jesus rose from dead and restored the broken relationship we had with God. Since the punishment has been ALL paid by Jesus, God no longer see even a tiny seed of sin on us. That is the divine love God has given to us.
